The Walnut Room
Every Christmas of my childhood, my grandmother took us to breakfast in the Walnut Room — hot chocolate with whipped cream, Santa, an ornament to take home. Decades later I walked back in, and the whole memory was still there, untouched. Which got me thinking about why some memories survive, and so many others get buried.
