Belgium – Leaving Room for More
Gothically gorgeous Ghent had me completely captivated
The Story
Belgium was a whirlwind—three days, three cities, and not nearly enough time. We road-tripped through charming medieval towns, each one begging us to stay longer. Ghent stole my heart with its canals and spires, one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. I’ve heard Bruges is even more stunning, but we simply couldn’t fit it in.
We admired cathedrals, wandered cobblestone streets, and glimpsed museums from the outside. Everything was gorgeous, but it always felt like we were peeking through the window instead of stepping fully inside.
The Reflection
Belgium was both wonderful and frustrating. Wonderful, because what we did see was unforgettable. Frustrating, because we missed so much. I wanted to climb cathedral towers, linger in art museums, and soak in the medieval beauty at a slower pace.
And yet, maybe that’s part of the gift. Sometimes we’re meant to leave places not fully explored. To let them linger in our imagination. To give ourselves a reason to come back.
The Lesson
Belgium taught me that not everything needs to be finished. Some experiences are meant to stay open-ended, to remind us that life still holds more beauty, more discovery, more joy around the corner.
Beyond Travel
We often want closure, don’t we? To tie things up neatly, check off all the boxes, and declare something “done.” But life doesn’t always work that way. Some chapters remain unfinished—not as failures, but as invitations.
One Year Later
Looking back now, Belgium still calls to me. It reminds me that I don’t have to experience everything at once. That it’s okay to leave room for “next time.” That anticipation itself is a kind of joy.
A Question for You
What in your life feels unfinished? And instead of rushing to complete it, could you allow it to stay open—an invitation to return, to grow, to discover more when the time is right?
